How to Develop Consistency in Life

Don’t be resistant to being consistent.

You might have heard the saying: If you are persistent, you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it.

The statement describes the outstanding football player Lionel Massey. He was a defending star of the Champions League. The conspiracy started when Massey’s supporter had questioned on his performance, and some attributed it to lack of commitment.

Massey was anything but consistent. 2012 was the record-breaking year for him, and he scored 73 goals in all the competitions, which made him a single-season top scorer in the history of European club football.

A successful bodybuilder, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has beautifully explained the consistency. He told us, create an environment to support your habits and routines. Arnold trained at a gym with other aspiring bodybuilders. Arnold used his training partner to motivate himself, and later, he decided to change his partner to improve further.

Everyone wants to perform best all the time, but it’s not possible. Ups and downs always come to life to stop you from achieving your goals. It’s all right to underperform sometime, but you have to be consistent to achieve your goal in the long term. Consistency develops routines and builds momentum.

Dwayne Johnson says,

The wrestler-turned-actor knows that waiting for inspiration is not an option. Working consistently towards a goal will have you not only achieve it in time but will also reveal greatness in the process.

A while back, I was struggling with my weight loss. I had 104 kilograms, which I needed to reduce to 62 kilograms for my healthy living. I decided to go to the gym with two of my friends. The enthusiasm was on the higher level among us. Soon, the high pressure of office work unbalanced our routine.

One of my friends dropped the plan to go to the gym in very early days. Somehow, I managed to continue, and if I missed the gym, I made sure to work out at home after my office. A few months passed, my other friend dropped out by the lack of motivation.

I reduced 25 kilograms of my weight in 6 months of the gym training and 40 kilograms of total weight loss in 11 months. — I was consistent with the routine, and the result gave me the motivation to achieve my goal.

In Simon Sinek’s book ‘Start with Why,’ he talks about progressing to the goal. He wrote,

It’s easier to quit. It always will be. There are times in life when the situation will force you to stop. Stay strong.

You need to push through that drop-off when It comes to achieving your goals. Many do not continue and give up. But if you can make it, you will accomplish remarkable things.

Focused improvement is an approach to generate constant growth based on the idea that little, ongoing positive changes can produce significant improvements.

You might have heard the saying, “Slow progress is better than no progress.”

Every small step to the goal will make you consistent and relentless instead of thinking about the goals.

Steve Jobs said,

A small step is more intimidating and more manageable.
Focused improvement works on the belief that everything can be improved. It involves identifying problems and opportunities to create solutions. Focused Improvement works of six steps of the process —

To do anything significant in life, the most important thing is to trust yourself and believe in your abilities. Success won’t come overnight, and it’s a gradual process that begins with consistency. The star basketball player, Michael Jordan, channeled his anger and embarrassment into his motivating factor.

A giant goal sometimes feels scary. Self-doubt keeps on pulling us backward. It’s a great idea to break down your current goal into smaller chunks and be consistent in achieving the tiny one.

For example, If you are a writer and you are writing most of the time on your desktop or laptop, whenever you achieve a particular milestone, you can reward yourself with a gadget.

When your reward is harmony with your goal, you push yourself to work harder and perform better. If you are not crediting your success, you will quickly lose your motivation, and you do not want to do your work actively.

The key is to acknowledge your hard work so that you can build up the momentum and achieve much more.

Walt Disney says,

Did you find the motivation to be consistent? What are the exciting ways you tried — and how are you implementing them?
